'That burden' - Rangers chief reveals stance on Philippe Clement after what happened recently

John Gilligan admits that he has been impressed with Philippe Clement despite Rangers being third on the table.

In his press conference on 23 September, the interim chairman admitted that the Belgian has been put in the position of being the club’s spokesman, which isn’t fair.

Now that Gilligan has taken charge, he can take the pressure off Clement and allow him to focus on his first-team duties.

Heart and Hand quoted him as saying that he’s “very impressed” with the Gers boss.

“He’s been put forward as a spokesman for the club which isn’t fair, hopefully now I’m here I will take some of that burden from him.”

Philippe Clement must improve the Rangers displays sooner rather than later

Clement’s tenure at Ibrox has indeed seen a mixed bag of results, with the current third-place standing reflecting a less than ideal start to the season.

While Gilligan’s acknowledgement of the Belgian’s role as an unintended spokesperson highlights external pressures, the manager must shoulder some responsibility for the team’s performance.

They have struggled to get over the line in games where they should be cruising while the result and performance against Celtic reflect how crucial the problem is.

Clement’s integration of new signings and tactical adjustments are pivotal and the early season struggles suggest there’s room for improvement in these areas.

However, recognising the complexities of everything going on, the Rangers board might afford Clement time until December to turn the tide.

If by then Celtic have established a significant lead and Gers continue to falter, the club’s patience might wane, potentially leading to Clement’s dismissal.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has been left stunned after what he saw a Gers first-team player do last week.
