'Unconvincing' - Keith Jackson baffled by what Clement did after Rangers win v Hibs

Keith Jackson believes that Philippe Clement was “unconvincing” after the Rangers win against Hibernian with his reaction to the controversial penalty call.

The Gers managed to triumph 1-0 over Hibs at Ibrox on Sunday 29 September, with Tom Lawrence curling home a stunning winner.

John Souttar was penalised for handball just before the break after a VAR intervention, only for Jack Butland to save the day and seal the three points.

Clement was rather animated in his post-match press conference and even re-enacted the penalty to try and explain why it was wrong, which left Jackson baffled.

“Clement after the game was unconvincing,” he said on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live.

“It was a stonewall penalty kick, he’s blocked it with his arm, it’s a shot on goal and it has to be a penalty kick so I didn’t really get that.

“Sometimes you wonder with Philippe Clement if it’s one step forward and two steps back”.

The Gers have had quite a topsy-turvy season thus far.

They started poorly with it feeling like they had already given up after dropping points to both Hearts and Celtic in the opening few weeks.

Their poor performances at the start of the term left a lot to be desired and brought the future of Clement into question despite the fact his Ibrox stay was extended.

John Bennett’s sudden resignation [The Athletic, 14 September] also threw a spanner into the works but, since his departure, things have seemed to take a turn for the better.

There’s still time for things to change of course but the fact that they managed to easily beat Malmo 2-0, shows the quality that the team possesses.

The Gers had a massive overhaul in the summer, leaving no stone unturned in terms of trying to bolster their ranks.

It’s still early in the season and nothing is yet guaranteed but, for now, at least, fans can revel in their team’s recent successes.
