'Understand': Fabrizio Romano shares Saturday morning update on what he's now heard from Arsenal about Nketiah

Arsenal may be in the market to bolster their squad for their upcoming title fight with Manchester City, but there is still room for players to depart.

Riccardo Calafiori marked Arsenal‘s first signing of the summer last weekend as Mikel Arteta finally got his man.

The Gunners wasted no time with the Italy international in getting him to meet his new teammates over in the United States.

Arsenal are now looking to add Mikel Merino to their squad ahead of their season opener against Wolves in two weeks time.

However, there could also be some players to depart the squad over the coming weeks before the deadline at the end of the month.

What Fabrizio Romano has now heard about Eddie Nketiah leaving Arsenal

On Friday night, Arsenal rejected a £23m bid from Marseille for Eddie Nketiah with the Gunners wanting a bigger fee.

Nketiah was one of the players included in Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States.

And he did feature in all three of the games across the pond which ended on Wednesday night with defeat against Liverpool.

But it seems as if the 25-year-old striker could be set for a summer exit as he searches for more regular game time.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are now looking for a fee in the region of £30m this summer if they are to sell Nketiah.

That is £30m as the base fee with a sell-on clause included in his deal with the Ligue 1 side.

With Arsenal having knocked back the offer of £23m on Friday, it is even claimed that Marseille could be willing to assess other options.

There is quite the difference between what has been offered and what Arsenal want, but the Gunners may have to consider whether Nketiah is worth keeping around.

Arsenal could waste a lot of money on Eddie Nketiah’s wages

As the 25-year-old’s future hangs in the balance, Arsenal may have to weigh up the pros and cons of potentially selling Nketiah this summer.

The striker made 27 appearances in the Premier League last season and returned just five goals.

To be fair to Nketiah, that is more than what Gabriel Jesus had to offer but it is not exactly fitting of a striker who is earning a reported £100k-per-week.

With Arsenal believed to be showing an interest in Victor Osimhen, perhaps the Gunners will need to raise every penny they can if they are to sell Nketiah to fund a move for the Nigeria international.
