'Van Dijk will definitely sign' - Transfer guru shares big Liverpool news

Virgil van Dijk is expected to commit his future to Liverpool by signing a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield.

This is according to former Man United, Tottenham and West Ham senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he has “no doubt” the captain will sign a new deal.

With less than a year left on his current contract, the 33-year-old would be free to agree a pre-contract deal in January ahead of a permanent exit on a free transfer in the summer.

Football Insider revealed on 19 October that the club had made extending Van Dijk’s contract their number-one priority.

Now, though, he is prepared to commit himself to the club after being impressed by Arne Slot’s strong start as the manager following Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

The centre-back is said to have had reservations about whether his ambitions would be matched over the summer break, but their record this season has convinced him.

Liverpool currently sit at the top of the league with just one defeat in ten games, while they have won all of their Champions League and League Cup fixtures so far.

It has also been said that the constant speculation over his future is largely down to his agent trying to get him a better deal when he eventually puts pen to paper.

Brown had previously told Football Insider that Liverpool are “desperate” to reach an agreement with Van Dijk to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working with players at the top level including over a decade as chief scout during Man United’s most successful period, has insisted that he is happy to remain at Anfield beyond this season.

“I firmly believe that this is a pressure job from the agents,” he told Football Insider.

“They want to get the best deal possible for their players, whether that’s here or elsewhere.

“But I have no doubt that Van Dijk will definitely sign an extension to his contract.

“He’s still a crucial player under the new manager and he’s playing in a team that, at the moment, look like they could go and win things.

“In the summer, I heard he was keen to see whether the new coach could match his ambitions.

“They’re top of the league after ten games and have lost just once all season – I think he’ll be delighted with the way things have gone.

“He’s the captain, he loves the club, and the fans love him. What else could you want?

“I can’t see a situation in which he leaves in the near future.”
