Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella make history with Bayer Leverkusen after final-day victory over Augsburg

Super Eagles star Victor Boniface scored while Nathan Tella watched from the bench as Bayer Leverkusen became the first club to win the Bundesliga without losing a game after they defeated Augsburg 2-1 in the final fixture of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bayer Leverkusen have enjoyed an incredible campaign with Xabi Alonso as coach. They already won the Bundesliga title a month ago after defeating Werder Bremen 5-0 at BayArena. However, they still had an unbeaten run to protect.

Die Werkself took on Augsburg in their final game of the campaign on their home turf. Coach Alonso named Boniface in the starting lineup while Tella was left on the bench.

Bayer Leverkusen had a dream start to the game with Boniface scoring the opener in the 12th minute. Amine Adli profited from a mistake by Tomas Koubek in Augsburg’s goal and laid the ball off for Boniface, who simply tapped it in.

The Super Eagles star had another chance to score in the 16th, but his shot from close range was saved. Nonetheless, Bayer Leverkusen got their second goal in the 27th minute.

Mert Komur pulled one back for Augsburg in the 62nd minute, but that goal was not enough, as the game ended 2-1. Boniface had a very good game. In 62 minutes of action, he registered two goal attempts and 28 touches.

The win ensured that Bayer Leverkusen became the first team to win the Bundesliga without losing any game. They registered 28 wins and six draws.
