Ianis Hagi put in a decent shift for Romania in their 3-0 Nations League away win on Saturday (12 October).
Although he was only brought on in the 72nd minute, he had a decent impact on the game and managed to get the ball in the back of the net at one point but, unfortunately, it was ruled out for offside.
Hagi made a dismal return after being reintegrated into Philippe Clement’s squad, seeing red as a substitute in the 2-0 win over St Johnstone on 6 October.
But he still remains a key performer for Romania and his cameo had encouraging signs for Rangers.
Ianis Hagi has made a Rangers statement after his display for Romania
Hagi may have only made an 18-minute cameo appearance for his country but that didn’t stop him from getting involved with the action almost instantaneously.
As per Sofascore, in the short time he was on the pitch, he had 16 touches of the ball and ended the clash with a pass accuracy of 78 per cent.
Of those passes, one was deemed a ‘key pass’, which alongside his offside goal showed he was trying to make a positive impact off the bench.
Hagi replaced Dennis Man and was used as a right-winger, where he has been utilised at times for Rangers even though he prefers to be more central.
The attacking midfielder also had a goal chalked in the dying embers of the game as it was deemed offside.
Although his attacking prowess was the strongest area of his game, he also managed to put in the work defensively.
Hagi won 100 per cent of his ground duels and made one clearance, he did, however, lose possession of the ball five times.
The Romania international even chipped in with a tackle, though his crosses left a lot to be desired.
Of the two he attempted, zero per cent were accurate which shows why he’s usually deployed as an attacking midfielder for Rangers rather than on the flanks.
He was only on the pitch for 18 minutes but it’s clear to see his impact on the game and his performance will have certainly bolstered his chances of a spot in Clement’s starting XI.
Tom Lawrence and summer arrival Nedim Bajrami [Gianluca Di Marzio, 30 August] have been the ones to occupy the role for most of the season, however, they could find themselves replaced by the Romania international if his form continues in an upward trajectory.
