Graeme Souness was ridiculed live on talkSPORT for his recent claim that the gap between Celtic and Rangers is not as big as it seems in the Scottish Premiership.
The pundit clashed on talkSPORT with co-host Simon Jordan over his claims the gap between the two rivals is not as big as is commonly perceived after the 3-0 loss to Celtic in the Old Firm derby on 1 September.
Rangers have since trailed their Glaswegian rivals by five points in the table, as they sit top level with Aberdeen on points.
TalkSPORT presenter Shebahn Aherne revised Souness’ claims live on air [13 October, 2:28pm] and reiterated the common perception of his words.
She said: “I’m sure I heard him say recently there’s not much of a gap between Celtic and Rangers. Okay, Graham. Good one.”
What can Rangers do to bridge the gap to Celtic?
Every football fan knows, as much as Rangers supporters would like not to believe, Celtic have been the dominant force in Scottish football for too long now.
The sooner the Gers come to terms with the facts the better, and the work can begin to bridge the gap that seemingly is growing wider apart with each passing season.
Rangers must resolve the problems from top to bottom. The club is making strides towards appointing a new CEO for a start.
However, the latest squad overhaul overseen throughout the summer has done little to improve matters on the pitch.
Clement lacks the financial firepower that Brendan Rodgers enjoys on the other side of Glasgow and must re-think his strategy heading into the January transfer window. It is time to make some difficult decisions at Ibrox.
The Gers have just secured what is being claimed as the “biggest deal” in Scottish football, set to net the club £3m per year through the renewal of the shirt sponsorship deal with the Kindred Group.
If Rangers decide to invest the £3m into recruitment, the extra funds could make all the difference and ensure top-quality players are acquired at Ibrox.
All involved with the Light Blues must come to terms with the fact this will be no overnight fix – it will take time and making the right decisions consistently to re-establish the club as a powerhouse in Scottish football. Those decisions must start now.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement must make the obvious James Tavernier decision at the Gers.
