Robin Propper, who’s on the verge of joining Rangers, is very good in the air and a consistent performer, according to Michael Statham.

The Dutch football expert, speaking to PLZ Soccer, claimed that he would be a good fit in the SPFL as well.

This comes as the 30-year-old centre-back is set to undergo his medical on Wednesday before finalising a transfer as an agreement has been reached. [Tubantia]

Statham said: “I think with Propper you’ve got someone who is stable, consistent and a late bloomer. I can see it working.

“I think he’s got an overall game where he’s very good in the air but not best. Someone that’s going to be dependable in that aspect when coming to the Scottish league. Very physical.

“Good on the ball, but not the best on the ball.”

Robin Propper will be a quality signing for Rangers

Gers have lacked someone with the quality in the defence to be a rock who can be a bully and make lives miserable for opposing attackers.

Too often, they have been vulnerable defensively and signing Propper will give them that solidity in defence.

He can quickly emerge as one of the leaders inside the dressing room and with James Tavernier also potentially leaving, Philippe Clement will be turning to players like him.

Propper is expected to be among the first names on the team sheet and while he may not start the very next game, once the season begins, he’s going to be there in the eleven regularly.

It remains to be see what the plan is for Clinton Nsiala and whether Clement envisages him playing along side Propper or John Souttar retains his place.

It has been a window full of twists and turns and there’s every reason to believe that things are going to continue this way.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has issued a £12.6m transfer claim as Gers are linked with a big-money move to sign a new attacker.
