Rangers confident of double Dutch deal with one medical underway - reports

Rangers are confident of completing a deal for former Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel by Thursday, according to Andy Devlin.

The Scottish Sun’s sports reporter spoke on X [31 July] to summarise the latest moves by the Gers to bring in the Dutchman, alongside experienced compatriot Robin Propper who has arrived in Scotland for a medical [Barry Anderson, 31 July].

Van Ginkel and Propper are a duo Philippe Clement wants signed and sealed by close of business on Thursday, which is the deadline to be registered for the club’s upcoming Champions League qualifying tie against either Dynamo Kiev or Partizan Belgrade.

Whilst Propper will command a transfer fee to FC Twente, Van Ginkel will cost nothing from former club Vitesse Arnhem having left as a free agent at the end of last season.

Rangers chase Van Ginkel coup

To be able to sign a Dutch international with Champions League experience on a free transfer is, on paper, a no-brainer for Rangers.

Recruitment chief Nils Koppen has had an enormously busy summer so far and will continue to do so, with the club having seen a host of experienced servants move onto pastures new, so far replaced predominantly by younger players.

Clement is aiming high with the mooted transfers at Ibrox and is serious about his ambition to match Celtic this season – it’s now or never for the Belgian, and he’s fully aware of the fact they must start well.

Van Ginkel made just four senior appearances during his time at Chelsea and spent the majority of his spell away on loan, but enjoyed a solid season with Vitesse last term having scored seven goals and provided two assists.

With midfield reinforcements a particular need for addressing, Clement would be over the moon to secure a deal for the 31-year-old.
