Journalist shares what he is told about Rangers signing a new left-back after Yilmaz injury

Rangers do not have the assets to bring in a new left-back following Ridvan Yilmaz’s injury, according to Philippe Clement.

Joshua Barrie, the Rangers Review journalist, shared the quote of the Belgian claiming that the club have three left-backs already.

Jefte sealed his permanent move to Ibrox this summer, having been linked with a move since the January transfer window.

Clement said: “I don’t think we have the assets to do those things. We need to put all the focus on the positions we need in the squad for the rest of the season because [if you get] a full-back in now, you [already] have three left-backs.”

Jefte needs to show why Rangers have wanted him for a number of months

Jefte’s permanent move to Gers, after months of speculation, places considerable pressure on him to validate the club’s investment.

Not only must he justify the financial outlay through consistent high-level performances, but he also faces immediate competition for the left-back position, especially with Yilmaz’s injury.

Philippe Clement’s emphasis on squad balance means Jefte needs to quickly assimilate into the team’s tactics, proving his worth beyond just being an additional option.

Moreover, the anticipation surrounding his transfer has set high expectations among the fans, who are eager to see if he can deliver the quality that prompted Rangers’ prolonged interest, thereby securing his place as a key player in the squad.

He has shown glimpses of being prolific in the final third, but he’s also got to operate well in the defensive third.

It will be interesting to see how he copes in Yilmaz’s absence, which could be up to six weeks.

In other Rangers news, a development has emerged as Gers aim to secure the transfer of a £6.8m-rated international striker.
