Rangers got back to winning ways with a comprehensive Premiership win over St Johnstone at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side will head into the October international break with three more points under their belt having ran out 2-0 winners on Sunday (6 October) thanks to an impressive brace from Vaclav Cerny.

The win leaves the Gers third in the Premiership table, five points behind table-toppers Celtic and second-placed Aberdeen, with both sides yet to drop points in the league so far this term.

Ibrox News have rated the players out of 10;

Jack Butland – 6

Perhaps one of the Englishman’s quieter games in a Gers shirt. The former Manchester United man didn’t have a real save to make in the first half of the contest, but when he was called into action in the second period, he pulled off some remarkable saves.

Jefte – 6

Jefte has been a revelation in Gers colours, but this was one of his quieter games since making the move to Glasgow this summer. Still had a few bright moments in possession, but the majority of the Gers’ attacking work came down the right flank instead.

Robin Propper – 5

The Dutchman has become a regular this season and while he was solid enough in large parts on Sunday, he still had a few moments where he looked off of the pace at Ibrox. He made up for one or two loose passes with another clean sheet so fans cannot have too many complaints.

John Souttar – 7

The Scotland international may not have had loads to do, but when he was called into action he was excellent. A few quick defensive interventions kept St Johnstone well away from Butland’s goal. He may not be the most exciting, but the defender is quickly becoming one of the more consistent members of Clement’s side.

James Tavernier – 6

While some fans expected the skipper to be dropped, he started again at right-back and managed to pose a threat from set-pieces. A few excellent crosses into the penalty area and even got stuck in defensively as the Light Blues picked up a much-needed clean sheet.

Nico Raskin – 6

Handed a rare start in the middle of the park and while he was guilty of a few loose passes, he kept things ticking throughout the game. He isn’t the perfect midfielder, but his display on Sunday showed that he can still have an impact under Clement.

Mohamed Diomande – 6

Started alongside Raskin in the middle of the park and had a few bright moments. Managed to pick up the assist for Cerny’s opener but he could take little credit for the winger’s excellent work before the strike. It was a surprise to see him replaced by Connor Barron at half-time but Clement has been keen to rotate his midfielders this term.

Ross McCausland – 4

The Northern Irish international deserved his start but was kept incredibly quiet down the left flank. McCausland was replaced by Ianis Hagi at half-time having barely left his mark on proceedings during the game.

Nedim Bajrami – 6

Deployed in a more central role and while he played a few defence-splitting passes, he didn’t manage to have a major impact on the game. Shifted back onto the left when Hagi was introduced and while he seemed to see more of the ball, he would have liked to have been slightly more involved.

What happened to Vaclav Cerny at Rangers and Ibrox?

Vaclav Cerny – 9

After a difficult few weeks at Ibrox, the Wolfsburg loanee showed exactly how good he can be. He was easily the Light Blues’ most dangerous player and deserved both his goals. Two excellent runs and composed finishes that showed he can be a difference-maker in a Gers’ shirt, even if he’s not always the most lively.

Cyriel Dessers – 3

Should have opened the scoring early on when he had a free header from a Tavernier corner but failed to hit the target. Got the ball caught under his feet in the second half as he was presented with an excellent scoring chance. It was the sort of game that showed just why fans are so frustrated with the Nigerian international. Was hooked before the hour mark.

Substitutes

Ianis Hagi – 4

Nobody expected the Romanian’s return to be quite this dramatic. Excellent pass to assist Cerny’s second goal but then an awful tackle saw him given his marching orders. The midfielder cannot have too many complaints.

Connor Barron – 6

Plenty of energy after a difficult night in Europa last time out. He’s still only a young man so he has plenty of time to find his feet in a Light Blue shirt.

Hamza Igamane – 5

Replaced Dessers in the second half and missed a few excellent chances to open his account in Rangers colours.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo – 6

Dujon Sterling – n/a
