Tottenham crawled to a 4-3 victory against Manchester United in the EFL Cup quarter-final on Thursday, with Fraser Forster trying his hardest to throw it away.
The goalkeeper started for Spurs against the Red Devils at home on 19 December and came out as winners as Dominic Solanke scored twice, with Dejan Kulesevski and Son Heung-min also finding the back of the net.
Ange Postecoglou made a couple of changes to his starting lineup after the 5-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League on 15 December.
The North Londoners took a three-goal lead as Djed Spence set up Solanke in the 54th minute, and the North Londoners looked in a comfortable position.
Postecoglou must’ve thought he would have a comfortable day in office, but Forster had other plans for the fixture.
Fraser Forster abysmal for Tottenham v Manchester United
The English goalkeeper gifted United two goals and allowed the third to sneak through his hands with a goals-prevented rating of -0.7, as per FotMob.
Forster was guilty of giving the ball away on several occasions and putting the Lilywhites under pressure, with 66 per cent passing accuracy and 39 per cent of his long balls completed.
The 36-year-old had five throws, seven recoveries and 44 touches on the ball throughout the entire fixture as Tottenham managed to see off the Red Devils despite conceding three goals.
Postecoglou is already under pressure at Tottenham, and the Australian will be relieved that Son was on hand to score the North Londoners’ fourth.
Despite Forster’s best efforts, Spurs have reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup and will have the opportunity to end their trophy drought finally.
The manner of victory wasn’t the most convincing, and with Guglielmo Vicario injured, the Englishman needs to ensure such displays aren’t repeated.
In other Tottenham news, Archie Gray was made promises to snub a transfer to Manchester City.
