Tottenham have not had an out-an-out striker at their disposal since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer.

One player who could attempt to fill that void, linking up with the likes of Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski in attack, is 22-year-old Troy Parrott.

The young forward will have proven himself to Ange Postecoglou this season, joining Excelsior in the Eredivisie on loan and notching 17 goals and five assists in all competitions.

Despite his loan spell ending in heartbreak as Excelsior were condemned to the second division in the Netherlands, he ended the league season with a hat-trick before joining up with the Republic of Ireland squad.

The Irish looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw against Hungary on Tuesday 4 June, until Parrott entered the fray as a 61st-minute substitute and netted the winning goal two minutes into added time.

If that is not enough to show Postecoglou that he is ready for first-team football, what is?

Ange Postecoglou must award Troy Parrott with Tottenham chance

While his finish may not have been full of confidence, despite a free-scoring loan spell, it is often the case that it only matters that the ball hits the back of the net, not how.

Breaking away on a late counterattack, Parrott scored with his only shot of the game, registering a 100 per cent shot accuracy via one of the last kicks of the match [FotMob].

Having only been handed 28 minutes to make a difference, the 22-year-old grabbed the opportunity with both hands, completing 67 per cent of his dribbles (2/3) and winning 100 per cent of his tackles.

The striker also entered into 11 ground duels, and though he only won 45 per cent, it is impossible to knock his hunger and desire to lead from the front and get involved.

Parrott has the potential to add a very exciting character to the Spurs squad this summer, but Postecoglou will need to give him an opportunity to impress.

According to FBref, the striker ranks in the top 89 percentile for non-penalty goals in leagues comparable to the one he played in this past season, the top 92 percentile for assists, and the top 88 percentile for progressive carries.

Whether he is trusted to be a starting player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or is utilised as an impact substitute, the manager can no longer ignore him after a sensational season away from the club.

In other Tottenham news, the club have been told to sell one “unreliable” player amid a Fabrizio Romano update.
