Ange Postecoglou has been unable to call on Yves Bissouma in his confirmed Spurs team to take on Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (15 September).
Tottenham have made a slow start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Before the international break, they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park (1 September), leaving them on four points after three matches played.
Therefore, this North London derby feels more important than ever as Postecoglou’s side look to kickstart their season.
Supporters will be desperate for their side to prevent Arsenal winning on three straight visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Therefore, the inclusion of Micky van de Ven and Dominic Solanke will come as a huge boost.
However, fans would have noticed that Bissouma was nowhere to be seen as Spurs confirmed their starting lineup via the club’s official X account (15 September).
Yves Bissouma nowhere to be seen for Tottenham against Arsenal
It always feels like one step forward and two steps back for Postecoglou in terms of injuries.
While there will be much delight about the returns of Solanke and van de Ven, it looks as if Bissouma has now picked up an injury just when he was beginning to find some form.
The 28-year-old has three goals in his last four games for club and country.
He was on fire for Mali during the international break, scoring twice in two matches. One of those strikes proved decisive as Mali claimed a 1-0 victory over Eswatini in 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying action on Tuesday (10 September).
As well as his goal in that game, Bissouma completed 95 per cent of his passes, with five of those key, and succeeded with five of his eight dribble attempts (Sofascore).
He also looked bright on his last Spurs outing, despite the defeat against Newcastle. As well as completing 92 per cent of his passes, with two of those key, he also completed four dribbles and won six ground duels against the Magpies.
Therefore, it will come as a big blow to Postecoglou and Spurs to be without the midfielder against the Gunners, and they will be hoping to have him back sooner rather than later.
In other Tottenham news, massive concern has emerged for one player on loan from the club after recent developments.
