Wenham backs Tottenham to replace long-serving star after Fabrizio Romano transfer news

John Wenham backs Tottenham to replace Ben Davies with Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Dorgu is someone who the club could target if he continues to impress in Italy.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (7 September), Spurs had the 19-year-old on their shortlist this summer. However, talks did not advance as Lecce wanted between £25-29million.

But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that Dorgu could still be a long-term option for the club.

“Hopefully, Tottenham will continue to play in Europe next season,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, we would have lots of games and we would need the depth. If Dorgu continues to impress he could be a player Tottenham eventually sign.

“Davies is out of contract next summer. Therefore, Dorgu could be his long-term replacement.”

The left-back situation in North London is a strange one.

Sergio Reguilón appeared to have no future with the club. However, he has remained in North London past the transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Davies is out of contract next summer after his long spell with Tottenham.

Therefore, it seems as though Destiny Udogie is the only settled player in this position.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou will want some more stability at left-back, and Dorgu acting as Udogie’s understudy could be the perfect solution.
