Ange Postecoglou could regret benching Pedro Porro for Tottenham against Bournemouth.

Spurs will be looking to return to winning ways as they take on the Cherries in the Premier League at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday [5 December].

After back-to-back draws, Postecoglou will be keen for his side to claim three points which could lift the North London side into the Premier League’s top five.

However, Andoni Iraola’s team are no pushovers, especially not at home where they have beaten the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

Therefore, Spurs will need to be at 100 per cent if they want to claim victory on the South Coast.

However, the decision to bench Porro, which was confirmed via Spurs’ official X account [5 December], could backfire.

Pedro Porro misses out in Tottenham XI v Bournemouth

Porro wasn’t at his best in the 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [1 December], a match in which Postecoglou caused shock with one decision he made.

As per Sofascore, he only completed 77 per cent of his passes, while he was also dribbled past five times.

In addition, just one of his four crosses into the box were accurate, while both of his long balls were inaccurate. He also won just 40 per cent of his ground duels (four out of 10), while he didn’t contest a single aerial duel and also gave possession away 17 times.

Therefore, it makes sense why Postecoglou felt as though Porro should be rested.

However, the Spaniard has started every Premier League game this season so far, despite being linked with a move away from the club [via El Desmarque, 13 November]. As a result, benching Porro and handing Archie Gray his first Premier League start could throw things off.
