John Wenham wants Tottenham ace Lucas Bergvall to move to another English club on loan in January.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose thinks the games will begin to dry up after Christmas for the 18-year-old.

Bergvall has made 13 appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season, starting four times in the UEFA Europa League and once in the Carabao Cup.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the Swede should spend the second half of the season elsewhere.

“I think Bergvall is used to life at Tottenham now, he knows how it works,” Wenham said.

“After Christmas, I think the games will dry up for him. Spurs will probably start to name stronger teams as the Europa League progresses.

“Therefore, I think Bergvall must leave Spurs on loan in January, and it has got to be a loan in English football. I think he needs a chance to establish himself in England. It is a big jump, moving from Sweden to the Premier League at the age of 18.”

Lucas Bergvall to leave Tottenham on loan in January?

Bergvall is a talented young player. However, he is unlikely to be starting for Tottenham in the Premier League anytime soon.

He still needs time to acclimatise in England, having been described as “out of his depth” previously this season, and spending the second half of the season on Spurs’ bench won’t do him any good.

As the season progresses, there will be fewer matches for Tottenham to play, and if the North London club do advance to the latter stages of the Europa League, Carabao Cup, or FA Cup, Bergvall isn’t likely to be starting in those matches.

Therefore, a loan move makes sense, with some of Spurs’ other talented young players demonstarting just how beneficial this kind of move can be. However, Spurs must find the right club for the midfielder.

The last thing Postecoglou would want is for Bergvall to head out on loan and not get any minutes.

Therefore, should a loan move be sanctioned, there must be assurances and guarantees in place.
