Ange Postecoglou could opt to start Pape Matar Sarr in five changes when Tottenham hosts Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday 3 November.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring for Spurs in a momentum-boosting 2-1 win against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday [30 October] and he could be called upon to repeat the feat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the weekend.

Postecoglou named five changes for the Carabao Cup clash from his side’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and the boss will be expected to name similar changes to face Aston Villa.

Guglielmo Vicario had little to do against Manchester City midweek, making one save throughout the 90 minutes [Sofascore]. However, he will be in for a more action-packed afternoon on Sunday and should remain in goal to thwart Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers.

Archie Gray left a lot to be desired with his performance in the Carabao Cup, losing 100 per cent of his duels and giving away possession 15 times on the night. Therefore, Pedro Porro should resume his position at right-back.

Radu Dragusin played a huge role in keeping Man City at bay, making five clearances, one interception, and winning 50 per cent of his duels.

After Micky van de Ven sustained a hamstring injury on Wednesday, the Romanian will be expected to line up alongside the ever-present Cristian Romero who should retain his place in the side with Destiny Ugodie expected to return to the side at left-back in place of the injured Dutchman.

Rodrigo Bentancur is proving a handy squad option in central midfield, completing 92 per cent of his passes with one key pass and winning 66 per cent of his duels on Wednesday. However, Yves Bissouma has been a stalwart in the Tottenham midfield this season and will be expected to return against Villa.

Pape Matar Sarr to be given a chance to shine for Tottenham

Sarr was electric against Man City, scoring the opening goal with his one effort on-target, he also completed 100 per cent of his passes and won 55 per cent of his duels in an all-round performance from the midfielder.

James Maddison has looked like a shadow of his former self in North London this season. The resurgence of Sarr should cost the England international his place in the starting lineup with Dejan Kulusevki, who assisted both goals from four key passes in the Carabao Cup, expected to operate in the number 10 role in the midfield.

Brennan Johnson has become a nailed-on starter for Postecoglou this year and was unlucky not to be among the goals midweek, completing 75 per cent of his passes with one key pass and one big chance created and registering two shots on-target in the win. The 23-year-old is undroppable as of late and should continue on the right flank.

Dominic Solanke has struggled to hit the ground running in North London since his big-money move from Bournemouth this summer and could only muster one blocked shot against Man City. However, the 27-year-old can provide more than goals, completing one key pass for one big chance created in the win, and will be expected to remain at the spearhead of the attack.

While Timo Werner opened his Spurs account for the season with the winner on Wednesday, the German only completed 56 per cent of his passes, gave away possession 12 times, and lost 80 per cent of his duels. Son Heung-min should make his anticipated return to the side as he remains in contention to feature on the weekend.

In other Tottenham news, a £100m claim has been made about Timo Werner after Spurs beat Manchester City.
