Ange Postecoglou will be concerned by Tottenham defender Radu Drăgușin’s most recent performance for Romania.
Spurs will be desperate to get back on track when club football returns following the conclusion of the November international break.
Ahead of the break, Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (10 November).
Their fans will be desperate for a response to that devastating loss. However, doing that won’t be easy, as the North London side must travel to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday (23 November).
And as if that clash wasn’t already tough enough, it looks as though Postecoglou could be without Cristian Romero, while it also remains unclear whether or not Micky van de Ven will return in time.
Therefore, it is almost guaranteed that Drăgușin will be required to start that match, a big concern considering the centre-back’s recent form for club and country.
Tottenham defender Radu Drăgușin continues to struggle while in action for Romania
Drăgușin wasn’t exactly in good form ahead of the international break.
The 22-year-old was blasted for his “horrendous” mistake as Spurs were beaten 3-2 by Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League at RAMS Park (7 November).
That evening Drăgușin was dribbled past once, completed just 71 per cent of his passes and made an error leading to a goal (Sofascore), as the defender’s weakness on the ball was exposed.
And that same weakness has once again been exposed, this time for Romania.
Drăgușin started and played 68 minutes as Romania beat Cyprus 4-1 in the UEFA Nations League at The National Arena on Monday (18 November).
There was a lot to like about the ex-Genoa player’s performance from a defensive point of view as he made two clearances, two interceptions, one tackle and won 100 per cent of his ground duels, although he did only win 50 per cent of his aerial duels.
However, it isn’t Drăgușin’s ability defensively which is much of a concern to Postecoglou or Spurs, but his ability on the ball and under pressure, and while the Romanian did complete 91 per cent of his passes against Cyprus, he also made an error which led to a shot.
Therefore, it seems as though the same weakness’ are continuing to be exposed, which will leave Postecoglou concerned.
Spurs are playing City next up, and that is not a game in which you can afford to have your players making any sloppy mistakes.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been backed to make a decision on Archie Gray moving to Leeds United on loan.
