Rangers have been quite a curious case this season.
While their form in the Europa League and the Scottish League Cup has been – by and large – impressive, they’ve fallen flat for the most part in the Scottish Premiership.
They currently sit third in the table and are now two points adrift of second-placed Aberdeen, albeit now with a game in hand.
The gap to league leaders Celtic is significantly larger with 11 points separating the two at the moment.
To make matters worse, the Gers are about to play the first of two difficult clashes this week with their first outing coming against Tottenham on Thursday (12 December).
While Spurs may be in a downward spiral of form at the moment, the gulf in money between both sides is undeniable and it would be a wonderful achievement if they come away with all three points.
However, if they do so, Keith Jackson believes that’s all it would take for fans to see things differently with Clement at Ibrox despite their poor league form.
“It does feel as if there’s people putting Ange Postecoglou on the green mile now down there and putting him under all sorts of pressure,” he said on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (10 December).
“He picked up more injuries yesterday didn’t he, and he’s coming up to Glasgow.
“Could you imagine if Clement was able to take that scalp going into the cup final, it starts to change the whole narrative about where Rangers are this season.”
Rangers beating Tottenham would be a sight to behold
Due to Spurs’ recent poor form, questions have been asked about where the future of Postecoglou could possibly lie.
Tottenham currently sit 11th in the Premier League and are seven points adrift of the top four spots.
In fact, of the last five Premier League games they’ve played, Postecoglou’s men have only come away with all three points twice so in reality, it does feel like a good time for the Gers to face their toughest opponents yet.
Of course, things can change instantly in football and Spurs could end up having too much quality for Rangers to handle, especially with the absence of Ianis Hagi and Danilo from their Europa League squad.
The game on 12 December could end up being a pivotal point in Rangers’ season, and who knows, if they leave the game with all three points, they could be the cause of the Australian’s sacking.
