Rangers’ win against Hearts on Sunday topped off a successful week but it may not be enough to sway opinions on Philippe Clement.

Cyriel Dessers was the match-winner, scoring after just six minutes. Although the performance from Rangers was still below par and they perhaps got away with one at Ibrox.

Clement will retain his position at Rangers, but Sunday’s victory won’t give him any extra credit.

Performances have to improve at Ibrox, urgently, otherwise, he remains very much on borrowed time and an Ibrox sack decision feels inevitable.

Rangers fortunate to beat Hearts

At the end of the day, the scoreline is the main thing that matters but Rangers were perhaps lucky to be on the winning end of it.

Hearts had opportunities in the game, Kenneth Vargas had the best opportunity of the game in the second half but squandered it and that was the tale of the game.

Results are what will keep Clement in a job, but results like that will be seldom if performance levels don’t improve. His side will arguably drop more points than they will win with performances like that.

Clement’s side managed just three shots on target against Hearts, according to FotMob, demonstrating their lack of real threat they posed throughout the game.

The Belgian will remain under pressure for the foreseeable and while performances like that remain present, that pressure will not dissipate anytime soon.

The Gers’ midfield was arguably the only thing to come away from their Hearts encounter with any additional credit, with Connor Barron and Nicolas Raskin impressing.

In other Rangers news, recalled skipper James Tavernier repaid Philippe Clement’s faith by setting up the opening goal against Hearts on Sunday.
