View: Collymore will surely get his Daniel Levy wish amid Tottenham investment update

Stan Collymore’s Daniel Levy wish could come true at Tottenham amid potential investment from Amanda Staveley.

The North London club’s owner has come under scrutiny in recent weeks as performances on the pitch continue to disappoint under his tenure.

The chairman has done a lot of good for Spurs, especially when it comes to the club’s finances, but the blame for a lack of major honours has been placed on his doorstep.

This has led many fans to demand a change of ownership, a sentiment which has been echoed by Collymore in his CaughtOffside column (12 December)

He said: “The other question is whether this is a club that is it fit for purpose to win trophies? The answer is no, and that’s down to Daniel Levy. I think, until he goes, there won’t be a change of mentality.”

After investment updates in recent weeks, it may not be long before the ex-Liverpool striker gets his wish at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Staveley hasn’t been shy about the potential of investment in and has potentially signed non-disclosure agreements after discussions to buy a minority stake in Spurs [The Athletic].

This came months after the financier was said to be considering an investment in North London after leaving Newcastle [Bloomberg].

The 51-year-old has raised £500m to help fund a potential bid and this would certainly be a figure to pique the interest of Levy.

As well as this sum, the British business executive is seeking up to £830million from Barclays [TBR Football] after the bank was fined for “controversial deals the bank struck to avoid a taxpayer rescue during the 2008 crisis” [The Times].

All this capital will only strengthen her approach to invest or potentially complete a takeover at Spurs which could see Levy on the way out.

This could represent a change in direction for the Lilywhites, potentially with a new manager in charge, where trophies are a demand from the hierarchy.

There is no doubt that this would fulfil Collymore’s wish in terms of mentality which Levy hasn’t been able to change during his spell in charge.
