Tottenham have shown how highly they rate academy starlet Mikey Moore having agreed a record-breaking deal for the teenage winger.

Jack Pitt-Brooke reported on X (6 August) that Spurs have agreed a maiden professional contract with Moore, who turns 17 on Sunday (11 August), on more money than they’ve ever offered a 17-year-old.

The three-year deal for Moore comes after he made his first two first-team appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side off the bench last season, and suggests they certainly won’t be his last.

Much of Spurs’ transfer strategy this summer has been steered towards buying promising young players, and in Moore’s record-breaking deal, Daniel Levy has shown he’s willing to promote from within too.

Mikey Moore contract showcases youth-first policy at Tottenham

It seems that wherever Moore goes, Tottenham records tumble, with his three-year deal coming after he became Spurs’ youngest ever Premier League player in his debut against Manchester City.

Going up against the four-times back-to-back champions was undoubtedly a baptism of fire for the 16-year-old, but Moore has clearly shown enough going through the levels at Spurs to warrant his new deal.

You’d expect the length of contract offered by Levy would have been much longer given the height of Moore’s ceiling, but UEFA rules don’t allow young players to be given deals longer than three years.

As such, the next three years are crucial for both player and club alike, as the Lilywhites look to develop Moore into a first-team regular who can command an even longer and financially greater contract.

With all four of Spurs’ signings so far this summer – two of each for the first-team and academy – being aged 18 or younger, Postecoglou is building a youthful core of a side he’s keen to push to the next level.

Whomever of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, George Feeney and Yang Min-Hyun has the biggest impact in North London over the next few seasons, you can expect Moore to, at least, be right on their coat-tails.

In other Tottenham news, a surprise has emerged after terms were agreed for a brand-new £34million transfer.
