John Wenham has piled praise on Mikey Moore as the Tottenham forward prepares to sign his first professional contract with the club.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the youngster is already above the likes of Manor Solomon in Ange Postecoglou’s pecking order.

As reported by The Athletic (6 August), Moore has agreed on his first professional contract with Tottenham, which will be finalised on his 17th birthday this Sunday (11 August).

He will sign a three-year deal and will be paid more money than Spurs have ever offered a 17-year-old previously.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has been impressed by what he has seen from Moore thus far.

“I think the minutes handed out during the pre-season tour show us where Moore is in the pecking order,” Wenham said.

“He is definitely above Solomon on that left-hand side. He is too young to go out on loan and will soon be signing his first professional contract.

“Moore has done really well to establish himself in the squad and appears to be very settled and vocal within the group.

“It goes back to that post-season match against Newcastle United which was criticised at the time. In hindsight, that appears to have been very beneficial for some of those younger players, like Moore.

“It allowed them to demonstrate to Postecoglou what they could do, and they have continued that form into pre-season.”

This is a huge statement of intent from Tottenham.

As a result of offering Moore this kind of contract, it indicates to the player and his representative just how highly the club value him.

A three-year contract is the longest allowed by FIFA regulations for a player under the age of 18. Therefore, the club have done all they can at this point.

However, if Moore continues on this trajectory, Spurs will no doubt be keen to quickly renegotiate fresh terms at the earliest possible point.

In the meantime, Postecoglou would be wise to hand Moore plenty of minutes this season and allow him to continue his development at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In other Tottenham news, one forward could be sold amid an “underwhelming” pre-season development.
