Daniel Levy looks to have moved one step closer to relinquishing some control of Tottenham to Amanda Staveley.
As previously reported by the Mirror (28 September) Staveley is in “advanced talks” to invest in Tottenham.
According to a source close to the deal, “Amanda is serious about being involved with Spurs, and is hoping that an initial purchase can be completed within weeks.”
This has led to speculation over what any investment would mean for Levy’s role in North London.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King doesn’t think Staveley would have much power should she go through with investing in Tottenham.
However, a report via Alan Nixon’s Patreon on Sunday (13 October) would suggest otherwise. According to the journalist, Eddie Howe could soon be on Spurs’ radar should Staveley get into a position of power at the club.
Nixon reports that Staveley is still a big fan of Howe from her time at Newcastle United. As a result, he would be top of her wish list if things don’t improve for Ange Postecoglou, suggesting he might be under more pressure than some might believe.
However, what is most interesting from this report, is the suggestion that Staveley would have enough power to influence a managerial change in North London upon completing any investment in Spurs.
Daniel Levy to relinquish some control at Tottenham?
Levy isn’t always the most popular man in North London. However, he is most certainly the most influential, and the person calling the shots at Tottenham, sometimes to the displeasure of supporters.
While Nixon reports that Staveley’s buy-in could still take some time, these reports suggest that any deal which is agreed could see her have more power than perhaps expected.
Therefore, it might suggest that Levy is planning to sell some of his own shares in the club, and consequently relinquish some control.
What this would mean for the future of Tottenham remains to be seen. However, considering supporters’ issues with Levy in the past, they would likely welcome change, even if it is change they should be wary of.
While there is no confirmation that anything has advanced yet, reports of Staveley eyeing different managers certainly imply that something is moving along in the background.
