Everton and Sean Dyche will already have their attention on the start of the Premier League season as their pre-season preparations continue.
The Toffees will want to get off to the perfect start against Brighton for their final campaign at Goodison Park and they could well be boosted by a number of new faces in the starting XI.
Jake O’Brien, Jasper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam could all feature for Dyche having joined the ranks on the blue half of Merseyside in the summer transfer window.
The Blues boss will have to make do without Youseff Chermiti after the Portuguese forward underwent an operation having picked up an injury in training, but he will be boosted by the return of one Goodison stalwart.
Fears had emerged around the fitness of Seamus Coleman after the Ireland international missed the Blues’ pre-season clash against Preston North End, but he returned to action against Motherwell on Tuesday (6 August).
The Toffees ran out 6-0 winners behind closed doors at Goodison Park and Coleman was unfortunate to not pick up an assist as Ndiaye rattled the crossbar with a volley following an excellent cross from right-back [Everton, 6 August].
Is Seamus Coleman injured for Everton?
Everton aren’t blessed with loads of options at fullback heading into the new season and at this moment in time it does appear to be unlikely that any new defensive recruits will arrive before the transfer window slams shut.
Had Coleman been ruled out for the opening game of the campaign, or for a longer stretch of time, Dyche’s options would have been incredibly limited as both Ashley Young and Nathan Patterson have faced their own fitness issues.
Getting the 35-year-old back out on the grass while also getting a few more minutes under his belt ahead of the meeting with Brighton will have come as a massive boost to the Blues boss and supporters.
Hopefully, Coleman can come through the final pre-season meeting with Roma unscathed so that he will be ready to lead the Toffees out for the first game of their last season at Goodison Park.
