Arsenal will replace both Jorginho and Thomas Partey if they don’t sign contract extensions, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Arsenal are considering the “long term” aspect of their midfield.
Signing a new midfielder and bolstering this area of the pitch is the main priority for the Gunners moving forward.
One reason is that Jorginho and Partey are out of contract next summer, and both men are also the wrong side of 30.
Even if the experienced midfielders commit their long-term futures to Arsenal, they will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
Arsenal could replace two experienced midfielders
Arsenal are now focusing on replacing Jorginho and Partey with long-term options, despite the latter still being a key part of the team.
Partey has played every minute of Arsenal’s season so far, being a crucial member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
On the other hand, the former Chelsea man has yet to play a minute of football for the Gunners this season.
Jorginho has been on the bench for all three of Arsenal’s matches so far but hasn’t been called upon by Arteta.
Arsenal have been scouting Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra as a potential future signing.
The 21-year-old could be seen as a potential replacement for Partey or Jorginho, but the Gunners are not expected to pay his £100million release clause.
