Dan Bardell believes Everton could cash in on Beto if Atalanta makes a bid despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract uncertainty.

Tutto Atalanta reported on 5 August that the Europa League champions are preparing a bid worth £17million for the 26-year-old.

This comes nearly 12 months after the Toffees signed the forward from Udinese for a fee potentially rising to £30m [BBC Sport].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Everton could be forced into selling the Portuguese depending on Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “It is difficult to say at the moment because they are so vulnerable with Calvert-Lewin and his contract situation.

They’d like to get some money in for him I would say rather than losing him on a free. On the other hand, if they can get anything close to what they paid for Beto that is too big an opportunity to turn down.

I think it’s one of those where, if the offer comes in, I feel that they have to accept.

If he has another year like his first season, they aren’t getting anywhere near £17m and are looking closer towards loaning him to Italy or somewhere else.

There’s room to manoeuvre in the transfer market for Everton and I think the striker position is in flux right now.

Everton could cash in on Beto

The striker scored 11 and 10 goals respectively in his two seasons with Udinese but could only register five in his 37 Everton appearances [FotMob].

This wasn’t a positive return considering how much the Toffees had spent but there is a chance he could perform better in the upcoming campaign.

His future could hinge on whether or not Calvert-Lewin opts to depart Goodison Park with Newcastle United showing an interest earlier in the window [Graeme Bailey].

Either way, Sean Dyche and the Everton hierarchy may not be able to turn down an offer of £17m from Atalanta if it comes in.

It is yet to be seen how the Toffees will move in the remainder of the window but with less than two weeks to their Premier League opener against Brighton, a decision must be made quickly.

In other Everton news, Atalanta have approached the club over a potential player swap.
