Trippier makes decision on move to Everton amid Newcastle exit talk - report

Everton may not be a destination which appeals to wantaway Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail reported in their print edition (23 August, back page) that while Trippier is “open” to leaving Newcastle this summer, he may not be making an anticipated switch to Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side are reportedly exploring a move for the 33-year-old right-back [The Times, 22 August], with Atalanta, Galatasaray and fellow Premier League side West Ham all having also expressed interest in Trippier.

Newcastle are keen to retain Trippier’s services despite Bruno Guimaraes dispacing the defender as permanent on-field captain, with Eddie Howe telling the defender he needs him as part of the squad.

Kieran Trippier stance could be blessing in disguise for Everton

While a reunion for Dyche and Trippier, who performed so well together during their time at Burnley, would provide much-needed assistance for the Toffees’ right-back problem, it’s hardly a long-term fix.

At 33, Trippier certainly isn’t ‘one for the future’, and the last thing which the Blues need is yet another right-back who is well beyond the wrong side of 30, despite their current availability crisis.

With 35-year-old Seamus Coleman and 22-year-old Nathan Patterson both out with injuries, 38-year-old Ashley Young’s sending off against Brighton on 17 August leaves Dyche with no fit senior right-backs.

However, with Trippier not getting any younger, and the Toffees being linked with the likes of Hellas Verona’s Jackson Tchatchoua [Corriere Di Verona, 3 August], Dyche should be looking further afield than his former Burnley man.

As an England international, Trippier does represent someone who would add much-needed assets to the Toffees’ makeshift defence, but he’s far from the only target who can bring those kinds of attributes.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could re-enter the fray for a long-term transfer target who wants to leave his current club.
