Everton continue to wait patiently to see if the club will receive yet another points deduction from the Premier League.

The Toffees were deducted a total of eight points during the 2023/24 campaign, first being docked 10 points before that was reduced to six, with an extra two points also being removed.

Despite the punishments, Sean Dyche’s side were eventually able to avoid relegation quite comfortably, finishing 14 points above the dropzone and just nine points off the top half of the table.

However, the Toffees still have the prospect of a third points deduction hanging over their heads thanks to £6.6million worth of interest payments relating to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium [The Times].

Keith Wyness has revealed to Football Insider [27 November] that the club could learn its fate in February, and with the situation dating back to last season, Martin Samuel has already hit out [The Times, 9 November].

He wrote: “That was April and this is November, yet nothing. And the decision is important.

“A £6million breach would amount to a one-point deduction and, looking at the present league table, that makes a difference.”

Everton continue to await Premier League points deduction decision

Samuel is absolutely spot on. Dyche and his team have experienced a torrid first few weeks of the 2024/25 campaign, having to wait until September to pick up their first victory.

The Toffees have only once since then, defeating Ipswich Town 2-0 which has seen them claim 11 points from their 12 matches and leaving them two points above the relegation zone.

Over the winter period, the Merseyside club are set to come up against Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, all before December ends, and the looming points decision is absolutely no help.

Sean Dyche is in another challenging season at Everton

If the Toffees could be deducted yet another point this season, they will be drawn even closer to the dogfight currently emerging at the bottom of the table.

Leicester City, Wolves, Ipswich, Palace and Southampton are all at risk and the Toffees are at risk of being thrown straight into this dreaded relegation battle.

The sooner a decision is made by the Premier League the better.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche’s hypocrisy is frustratingly clear after what he did v Brentford.
