Everton have a new reason to be furious with the Premier League following their 0-0 draw with Brentford on Saturday.
Supporters were already quite upset with the Toffees with only being able to secure a draw at Goodison Park, having played against 10 men for the best part of 50 minutes.
That was because Christian Norgaard was shown a straight red card by referee Chris Kavanagh for a studded challenge on goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following a VAR review.
Many at the time were surprised by Kavanagh’s lack of urgency to award anything in the Toffees’ favour, even with Pickford rolling around in agony, and only changed his decision after being advised.
Now, Sean Dyche’s side will be even angrier after the red card decision, with the Bees announcing that Norgaard’s suspension has been overturned by the Premier League following a successful appeal.
Premier League in Everton bad books once again with controversial decision
There is little the Toffees can do about the decision now, but many at Goodison Park will feel that the Premier League have made a poor decision here.
While Pickford was able to continue and complete the 90 minutes against the Bees, it was a reckless, out-of-control challenge and deserved to be punished.
The goalkeeper could have been seriously injured but the Premier League have let the Brentford captain off scot-free despite those at Stockley Park intervening in the decision.
This type of situation is exactly why few fans have faith in VAR and officials to make the right decision, especially when it comes to Everton, with many feeling that the league are against the club.
If VAR is used to overturn the initial decision and advise Kavanagh to change his mind, it does not make sense that the Premier League have now backed down and let the player off his three-game suspension.
Fans will have differing opinions over the initial decision but, either way, the Toffees are bound to be upset with the news coming from the Gtech Community Stadium.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche must cash in on a “horrendous” player this January after new transfer developments.
