Everton have been one of the most active Premier League teams this transfer window and have already made improvement to their attacking ranks.

The likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Harrison (back on loan for a second spell) have been added to Sean Dyche’s ranks and the club don’t look to be stopping there.

Even in spite of collapse of the Friedkin Group’s takeover it looks as though plans are moving afoot in the transfer window.

Amadou Onana is also on the cusp of the exit door this summer and has perhaps thrown something of a curveball in terms of the Toffees’ transfer plans.

Although the club had been linked with some midfield transfers this summer, it’s been evident from the start that Dyche’s main focus would be on his attack, but Onana’s departure means work needs to be done in the engine room too.

Arthur Melo is one of the midfield targets [GiveMeSport, 16 July] the club have been linked with and now seems like a better time than any for the Merseyside club to pounce.

And that’s because Juventus have left the playmaker out of their pre-season squad, according to announcement on the club’s X account on Saturday (20 July).

Everton should sign Arthur Melo this summer

The Brazilian’s last stint in the Premier League didn’t quite go to plan. The midfielder was injured almost instantly and missed the vast majority of the season while on loan at the Toffees’ rivals Liverpool.

Since then, however, he has managed to play a full season in Serie A and emerged as one of Fiorentina’s strongest players during a loan spell with the Viola.

He was mostly deployed in defensive midfield but contributed to six goals across the 48 games he played.

His range of passing alongside his experience could make him a valuable member of the Toffees’ squad next season.

It has been reported that a move would cost the club £12.6million [Mirko Di Natale, 8 July] which, for a player of Arthur’s calibre, is quite minimal.

The 27-year-old would no doubt want another shot at making his name in England’s top flight and showcase the talent he possesses. The time feels right for Everton to pounce.

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared two transfers that he thinks the Toffees will make this summer.
