Dan Friedkin has reportedly lined up a return for David Moyes at Everton with Sean Dyche set to be put on the chopping block.

Sean Dyche is undoubtedly on borrowed time at Goodison Park and his sacking seems almost inevitable once the Friedkin Group takeover gets ratified.

The Toffees’ draw against Brentford piled even more misery on Everton, who have won just two of their opening 12 games.

While Dyche’s sacking will be warranted, Friedkin cannot afford to appoint Moyes as his successor with the interest reported by Alan Nixon on his Patreon (24 November).

David Moyes return would be a mistake for Everton

The Friedkin Group takeover is set to be a major milestone in the recent history of the club, with new beginnings and an injection of optimism on Merseyside.

However, appointing Moyes would simply be a backwards step and it is simply not one that Friedkin can consider if he is to have a positive impact at the Toffees from the get-go.

It has been over 11 years since the Scotsman departed Goodison Park and in reality, his career since hasn’t developed.

Failed spells at Real Sociedad and most notably Sunderland would follow before joining West Ham where he would depart after 31 games in his first spell.

Everton need a fresh appointment. Someone who is capable of not only steadying the ship but unleashing the true potential of the club going forward.

Moyes simply isn’t the candidate to achieve that and his appointment would immediately slow the progress the club can make under new ownership.

Indeed, as was shown at Sunderland the Scot is no guarantee of success. Appointing him could potentially relegate the Toffees, it is a mistake Friedkin cannot afford to make.
