Everton were called “embarrassing” by Jamie O’Hara on talkSPORT after their 0-0 draw against Brentford in the Premier League.
Goodison Park hosted the Bees on 23 November, and despite taking 27 shots, the Toffees were unable to find the back of the net.
Thomas Frank’s team went a man down after Christian Norgaard picked up a red card in the 41st minute, and speaking on talkSPORT [23 November, 19:10], O’Hara wasn’t too pleased with the Blues’ attacking output.
“They had 27 shots. Down to 10 men, Brentford. And they still can’t score. They can’t hit a barn door,” he said. “Seriously, I could put a goat up front, and he’d score. It’s embarrassing.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin failing at Everton
Everton’s profligacy has been evident for everyone to see for some time now, and the reliance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to find the back of the net has come back to haunt the Merseysiders.
The Englishman has had his fair share of injuries over the years, but with the forward seemingly back to full fitness this season, Sean Dyche’s faith in him hasn’t bore any fruit.
In the 0-0 draw against West Ham on 9 November at the London Stadium, the Toffees had similar issues in the attacking third as the 27-year-old couldn’t take his opportunities, which has been a theme over the last few months.
It’s not like Calvert-Lewin hasn’t been given opportunities, with the England international starting in every Premier League fixture in the current campaign, scoring just two goals.
With the 27-year-old’s contract also ending next year, it feels like the Blues are making a mistake trying to build the team around him.
While the Goodison faithful understand the fact that Dyche doesn’t have any other number nines to call upon, with Beto’s performances even more dreadful, the former Burnley manager needs to find a solution to the team’s goalscoring issues.
In other Everton news, Manchester United could make a move for Jarrad Branthwaite in January as talks have been held.
