Rangers beating Kilmarnock on their return to action after the international break is now of “gargantuan” importance, according to David Edgar.

The man behind Heart & Hand Podcast reacted via X on 19 October after the 2-2 draw between Aberdeen and Celtic left the door open for the Light Blues to close the gap on both.

The Dons came back from two goals down at Parkhead to give Philippe Clement’s side the chance to draw within three points of the top two if they can get the win at Rugby Park the following day.

Rangers drew 0-0 with Hearts in the season opener and lost 3-0 in the Old Firm derby on 1 September but have won all their other domestic games this term.

Aberdeen fightback at Celtic opens door to Rangers

Given the state of the squad coming out of the transfer window and the overall sense of barely-contained chaos at Ibrox this term few fans are expecting major success this season.

But Brendan Rodgers’ side are arguably far from unstoppable themselves so if there is to be any sort of a challenge from Clement’s men this year opportunities like this one which must be taken.

Jimmy Thelin’s success since arriving at Pittodrie this summer is potentially starting to take the edge off Clement’s pleas for patience and faith the project at Ibrox.

But the Belgian might argue that he had a similar effect when he took over the Light Blues from Michael Beale this time last year, so it will all depend on how long the new Dons boss can keep it up.

Rangers have a massive opportunity at Rugby Park after the Celtic-Aberdeen result.

Clement looks safe in charge at Rangers for the foreseeable future with the club already faced with a long list of key staffing requirements as it is.

But to restore some of the faith that has been lost in his ability he absolutely needs to show his side is moving in the right direction.

The potential momentum gleaned from gaining on two sides dropping their first points could be major, but squandering the opportunity at this stage would cause supporters to lose belief just when it might be possible to start building something.

In other Rangers news, a first-team ace who has just made a major breakthrough is expected to leave the club.
