Daniel Levy will be rubbing his hands after a new Super League-like proposal emerged away from Tottenham.
Levy, who has been Spurs’ chairman since 2001, is always looking out for ways to boost the club’s finances, with a new investor already on the agenda.
Money was ultimately the reason why the North London outfit agreed to join the original European Super League proposal in 2021.
With £330.5million (€400m) on offer for the competition winners [Marca], the project was too good for Levy, as well as the big hitters in the Premier League, to refuse.
However, Tottenham and the other Big Six clubs quickly had to withdraw from the plan after backlash from fans, pundits and the media.
In September 2023, Levy doubled down on the club’s decision to join the ESL project [football.london] and another year down the line an opportunity to get back in the mix may have arisen.

The Daily Telegraph reported via their website on Tuesday (17 December) that the ESL is making a comeback after being rebranded as the “Unity League”.
However, unlike last time, founding clubs or certain teams will not have automatic qualification every year. There will be an annual qualification process for the four leagues within the competition.
Although only Real Madrid and Barcelona support the proposal as of now, the competition is meant to have a total of 96 participants across four leagues. In contrast, 108 clubs qualify for the group stages of the UEFA’s three European competitions.
The format of the competition is such that the winners would have to play a total of 18 games, including group-stage clashes and knockout ties.
Despite their failed attempt in 2021, the founders of the Unity League are prepared to challenge UEFA this time.
It is unclear if there will be a similar prize money for the winners, but Levy will, nevertheless, be monitoring the developments very closely as expenses continue to go up in North London.
It remains to be seen what Tottenham’s stance will be if they are invited to join the renewed Super League proposal.
