Ange Postecoglou may have to axe Yves Bissouma at half-time against Manchester City on Saturday if Tottenham want to hold on to three points.

Spurs have silenced the Etihad Stadium after taking a two-goal lead against the Premier League champions on 23 November, courtesy of a James Maddison brace.

However, the game is not over yet and Postecoglou has some thinking to do ahead of the second half.

Tottenham must axe Yves Bissouma at HT v Manchester City

Only 13 seconds had passed on the clock when Bissouma got himself booked for a lunging challenge from behind on Phil Foden. It was reckless of the Mali international to do that and risk being sent off, especially with Tottenham’s other defensive midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur serving a seven-game ban.

Although Maddison’s goals took some pressure off the North London giants, Bissouma’s first-half performance still left much to be desired as he went on to commit another foul [FotMob].

In another remarkable stat, the 28-year-old lost each of his four ground duels [zero per cent]. Postecoglou would need his defensive midfielder to do better as Spurs look to hold onto their two-goal lead.

It is, therefore, not worth keeping Bissouma on for the second half and risking him picking up a red card.

The former Brighton star had 30 touches of the ball and completed 24 of his 26 passes with 92 per cent accuracy, but none of them were played into the final third. Bissouma also had zero per cent success in both his dribble attempts.

His contributions in defence, which included three recoveries and an interception, were also minimal.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have received a major boost in their pursuit of this star after a new development.
