Rangers may have a serious concern at right-back if James Tavernier departs the club with Dujon Sterling failing to live up to expectations.

Tavernier has certainly regressed this season at Ibrox and an exit in the coming months looks all but inevitable.

His departure would leave Sterling to take over at full-back although his recent performances have been poor and haven’t been great throughout the season.

Sterling simply hasn’t showcased enough to warrant being Rangers’ starting full-back going forward.

Questions remain over Sterling’s credentials at Rangers

Several players have underperformed under Philippe Clement this season but Sterling has gone somewhat under the radar for his lacklustre defensive performances.

In 11 league appearances, there has been a constant trend to his performances that should be of concern and it should come as no surprise to see Rangers linked with a new right-back.

According to FotMob, Sterling has completed just 33 per cent of his attempted dribbles with just three resulting in him keeping possession of the ball.

His inability to drive forward has left the Gers very predictable when he is on the pitch, knowing that he’s unlikely to offer any form of threat going forward.

His lack of attacking threat is further demonstrated by the fact he has failed to score this season despite registering an xG (expected goals) of 1.47. While scoring goals is certainly not his primary role, having players capable of adding goals from all over the pitch is vital.

Aside from his lack of goal-scoring prowess, he fails creatively as well having created just two chances in the league and completing just one cross. A 10 per cent cross accuracy has been showcased which puts him in the bottom 16.9 per cent of players for that position.

Sterling hasn’t contributed an awful lot defensively either with his duel win rate providing a tough read. The 25-year-old has won just 45.9 per cent of his defensive duels, winning only 33.9 per cent of those in the air.

For a player who fails to offer any attacking threat, he simply has to offer something defensively and he doesn’t.

In other Rangers news, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist were in hysterics with a comment the former made.
