Vaclav Cerny could struggle for regular minutes at Rangers this season after Dujon Sterling was handed a new long-term contract.

The Czechia international completed a loan move from Wolfsburg to Ibrox over the summer but has failed to truly impress in the opening games of the season.

This hasn’t stopped Philippe Clement from starting the winger in four of the Gers’ six Scottish Premiership clashes so far this campaign.

After the latest news that Sterling has committed his future to the club, the loanee may fear for the amount of minutes he will feature in.

Vaclav Cerny could struggle at Rangers after Dujon Sterling new contract

The Light Blues announced on Tuesday (1 October) that the Englishman has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until May 2028 [Rangers.co.uk].

This has come despite him starting two league games so far this year, with three of his appearances coming off the bench.

Considering that the former Chelsea man has committed four years to the club, there may be demands from him to feature more regularly moving forward.

The 24-year-old is versatile and is able to play as a full-back, as a winger and even as a midfielder but did replace Cerny last time out against Hibernian.

The 26-year-old forward was criticised by Cammy Bell live on BBC Sportscene during the clash at Ibrox after a less-than-impressive showing.

Given that the loanee performed so poorly against Hibs, there is potential that Clement could drop him in the coming weeks.

Looking forward to clashes against Lyon and St Johnstone, Sterling will be hopeful that he can claim a place in the starting XI.

The long-term contract is ultimately a positive, and it is time now for the versatile ace to nail down a regular starting spot.

In other Rangers news, an Ianis Hagi breakthrough has emerged in the latest training update.
