Everton may have suffered a setback off the field with the collapse of Dan Friedkin’s takeover, but the Toffees’ transfer plans are not expected to be impacted this summer.
Sean Dyche is still doing everything that he can to build a squad capable of climbing up the Premier League table and has already bolstered his attacking options with the signing of Iliman Nidaye.
However, the Blues boss isn’t expected to stop there this summer and there is an expectation that Toffees may look to sign a new striker should Dominic Calvert-Lewin depart ahead of the new season [BBC Sport, 18 July].
One name linked with a move to Goodison Park was free agent Martin Braithwaite, with reports listing the Blues alongside several other Premier League sides in the race for his signature [Tipsbladet, 15 July].
It had seemed as though Everton had missed their chance to sign the forward as he closed in on a move to Olympiacos [Quique Iglesias, 17 July], however, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update which will have the Blues on red alert
Writing on X on Saturday (20 July) Romano said: “Martin Braithwaite, flying back to Barcelona from Athens as Olympiacos deal currently on hold after problems on personal terms.
“Braithwaite, considering other options as free agent.”
Are Everton close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?
If Dyche and Kevin Thelwell are genuinely interested in signing Braithwaite this summer, a window of opportunity has now opened for them to swoop and secure his signature without any competition.
Unless something changes quickly, it doesn’t appear as though the Danish forward is interested in penning a deal with Olympiacos at this stage as he considers all of his alternative options.
The recent off-the-field drama isn’t thought to have impacted the Blues’ plans for the summer transfer window, so they should still have the money available to offer the striker a competitive contract.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Everton make their move following this latest development, but Romano’s update will have certainly caught the attention of everyone at Goodison Park.
In other Everton news, John Textor has been backed to re-enter the race to take over at Goodison Park following the latest developments
