Sean Dyche gives update after Everton takeover development

Everton manager Sean Dyche has emphasised the need to “cut our cloth accordingly” as the club were plunged back into takeover uncertainty.

Dyche was speaking to the Liverpool Echo during the Toffees’ pre-season camp in Ireland (20 July), and said that he is continuing to work hard regardless of the Friedkin Group’s takeover being called off.

The Blues boss also suggested that despite the recent change in circumstances, he will continue to look for new signings of value, and also do his best to keep hold of the club’s best players this summer.

He said: “We are working very hard with the situation and what the club is – I have discussed that since I have been here and we are still doing that.

“Trying to cut our cloth accordingly, keep hold of the good players that we want to keep hold of, and add players that we feel can add something.”

Sean Dyche may need to work Everton magic once again

Working amidst uncertain off-field circumstances is nothing new for Dyche since arriving at Goodison Park, having been involved in relegation battles in each of his two seasons so far.

Last season looked to be the one which would finally see the Toffees slip beneath the Premier League’s trapdoor and be relegated after 70 top-flight campaigns, and yet they ended up surviving once more.

Sean Dyche kept Everton in the Premier League despite last season’s two points deductions

That certainly wasn’t helped by two separate points deductions for financial fair play breaches across the past two seasons, with eight in total chalked off, but a late revival saw Dyche lead them 14 points clear.

Had no points been taken away from the Blues, their tally would have equated to a 12th-placed finish, and those underlying numbers do give Dyche a strong foundation to build off going into the new season.

Friedkin’s takeover – which Everton insider Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July had hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners – may lead to weeks (or months) of further uncertainty, but in Dyche, the Toffees have the perfect manager for the task at hand,

In other Everton news, a player Pep Guardiola called “exceptional” last season is now a leading transfer target for the Toffees.
