Ange Postecoglou will want to make a statement once club football continues as Tottenham prepare to face Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).
The Australian has been unable to get the better of Mikel Arteta after two meetings, drawing 2-2 before the Gunners claimed a dramatic 3-2 North London derby win in April.
While Martin Odegaard was not involved in the goals in either game, the 25-year-old midfielder is one of the most important players at the Emirates Stadium so the latest news will be music to Spurs ears.
Arsenal look to be another team affected by the international break after Odegaard was substituted off during Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria, rolling his ankle before leaving the field on the 67-minute mark.
While Postecoglou is unlikely to focus on one player making all the difference, the manager could decide to make changes. There is no doubt that the midfielder’s absence would make the Gunners weaker.
Martin Odegaard to miss Tottenham v Arsenal?
While the 25-year-old is yet to get off the mark this season, he finished the 2023/24 Premier League campaign with eight goals and 10 assists, playing a vital role in Arteta’s team.
Spurs fans have witnessed his talent first-hand, having completed 100 per cent of his crosses and 100 per cent of his long balls while also entering into 14 ground duels [FotMob].
He ranks in the top 89 percentile for non-penalty goals, the top 97 percentile for assists, the top 99 percentile for shot-creating actions and the top 98 percentile for progressive passes [FBref].
It doesn’t stop there, either, with the midfielder boasting a top 99 percentile for touches in the attacking area and a top 87 percentile for progressive carries.
If Odegaard is unavailable for the North London derby on top of Declan Rice being suspended, Postecoglou will be expected to secure all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must never repeat experiment with an ace after 20% international display.
