View: Tottenham could be stuck with Levy as Staveley takeover news emerges

Amanda Staveley could hand Tottenham supporters a huge blow after a recent development with a Russian billionaire.

The British businesswoman had been linked with an investment in the Lilywhites that would force Daniel Levy to loosen the purse strings.

However, it seems like her attention has turned away from Spurs in a major blow for fans who are yearning for an end to the frugality of the Levy regime.

TBR Football reported that the former Newcastle part-owner is interested in French club AS Monaco after Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev put the club up for sale.

The outlet claims that Staveley could walk away from a minority stake in Spurs to take full control of the Ligue 1 club at a fraction of the price.

Tottenham’s owners have been notoriously frugal in their time in North London.

Daniel Levy and the ENIC Group have invested a total of £194million in the club since they took the reigns in 2001. [The Athletic, 18 November]

£94m of that was the fee to buy the club, with only £100m of owner funding going into the team in the 23 years since the takeover.

The latest update on Staveley’s intentions will be a big setback to Lilywhites fans hoping for an end to the lack of spending.

The club needs to invest in the transfer market to end their trophy drought, Spurs have not won a trophy since the League Cup win in 2008.

Without significant investment into the playing squad, they risk being left behind in the modern era.
