Viv Anderson says Arsenal have a 'really good player' in their ranks who can genuinely 'turn games'

Arsenal will hope it’s third time lucky with regards to their Premier League title hopes this season.

The Gunners have come a long way since Mikel Arteta took the reins of an Arsenal side that was languishing in mid-season in 2019.

Arsenal have since got themselves back towards the top of the Premier League table and were in the title picture over the past two seasons.

However, Manchester City did just enough to get over the line, and the Gunners will be desperate to put a stop to that in 2024/25.

Arsenal icon Viv Anderson has now given his verdict on the Gunners’ hopes in the title race, as well as praising their transfer business in the summer.

Viv Anderson says Arsenal newcomer Raheem Sterling ‘can turn games’

Anderson said, in quotes carried by Sky Sports News, that Man City are “the team to beat”, but also thinks Raheem Sterling could be a game-changed for Arsenal.

The 68-year-old also believes Mikel Arteta’s signings have been good, and said he likes what he’s seeing from Arsenal in terms of their gameplay.

“It is going to be difficult because clearly Manchester City are the team to beat,” Anderson said.

“But Raheem Sterling has come in on loan until the end of the season, and he is a really good player who can turn games.

“The manager’s signings have been good and I like what I see at Arsenal, so they have got a chance of bridging that gap (to City).”

What Sterling wants to achieve at Arsenal

Sterling joined Arsenal on loan from Chelsea right at the end of transfer deadline day. Indeed, the Sterling to Arsenal deal was confirmed after 11pm.

According to GiveMeSport, the 29-year-old is intent on aiding Arsenal as much as he can in their quest to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

Sterling is one of the most decorated English players in recent memory during his time with City, and at Arsenal, he will want to prove that he can still play a big part for a title-winning side.

The England international is also eager to repay Mikel Arteta’s faith, with the Spaniard having also worked wonders with him when the two were at Man City together.

Sterling is in line to potentially make his Arsenal debut on Sunday 15 September when the Gunners take on Tottenham Hotspur at N17.
