Simon Jordan has hit out at Rangers interim chairman John Gilligan in his press conference after comments by Dave King.
Speaking on TalkSPORT (24 September, 11:13am), the co-host didn’t hold back on his view of Gilligan after he distanced himself from King, the Gers’ largest shareholder, saying the club were in a “crisis”.
Gilligan stepped into the interim role in the wake of John Bennett’s resignation, but Jordan said that his attitude towards King reflected the poor shape the boardroom is currently in.
He said: “Well there sounds a leader, that was inspiring. Who’s he to define what a proper shareholder is? He’s the biggest individual shareholder, he has 15 per cent of the business – he can operate how he feels.
“That to me, tells me all I need to know about the capability, quality, outlook, disposition, motivation and energy in that Rangers boardroom.
“I know what a leader looks like, and that doesn’t look like one, and if that’s representative of the board, then they do need a shake-up and a wake up.”
John Gilligan cannot bring the change Rangers need
Gilligan’s want to keep King’s comments under wraps and distance the largest shareholder from the board can be seen through two different lenses – neither of which will being fans much comfort.
On one hand, Gilligan’s role as interim chairman means his key priority is to steady the ship rather than immediately give way to a new figure in the role, with key targets, like appointing a new CEO, to hit.
However, given King has previous experience in that exact role at Ibrox, Gilligan doing all he can to deny the shareholder’s accurate comments on the state of the club, is far from helpful.
With Bennett’s resignation and no CEO in place of James Bisgrove months on from his departure, the Gers are indeed rudderless, and are in need of the new investment and new ideas.
Doing more of the same will not please anyone who wants to see the Light Blues operate at their full potential, and with no change currently in sight, fans will be hoping for a new saviour to come along.
