Some of football’s greatest players have landed in Abuja ahead of the Attom Foundation’s Charity Champions Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Attom Foundation, Nigeria, in collaboration with some football players and celebrities, plans to provide eyecare services for 10,000 Nigerians through a Charity Champions Cup.

Attom Foundation was founded five years ago by Attom Yahaya in memory of his late father. With the Charity Champions Cup, Yahaya aims to blend sportsmanship and a noble cause to provide essential eye care services for the elderly in Nigeria.

Several football greats have bought into Attom Foundation’s ideals and many are already in Abuja to be a part of the event.

As shared by Dr. Kelechi Anyikude on his Twitter handle, Arsenal greats Robert Pires and Nwankwo Kanu are on the ground for the charity match.

Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makélélé and Nigeria’s greatest-ever playmaker Austin Jay Jay Okocha have also checked in.

Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is also at the event alongside Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

Other players and celebrities still expected to grace the occasion include Didier Drogba, Kenneth Omeruo, Tiwa Salvage, Peter and Paul Okoye, Asisat Oshoala, Ahmed Musa, and Mario Balotelli.

One of the main events of the day is the match between a team of legendary footballers against Nigerian celebrities to be played inside the National Stadium, Abuja today, Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Former Bolton Wanderers star Jay Jay Okocha is tipped to be the coach for one of the teams while Enyimba FC Chairman Kanu Nwankwo would be the coach for the second team.

The project is reportedly endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
