‘We forget’: Arne Slot says there’s an aspect of Ryan Gravenbech’s game that’s really underrated

Ryan Gravenberch was, once again, the man of the hour for Liverpool in their win against Bologna on Wednesday.

The Dutchman was incredible in the midfield in the Champions League, and he’s earned tons of praise for his showing against the Serie A outfit.

Speaking on the Official Liverpool Podcast, Arne Slot has been discussing Gravenberch’s performance, and, as you can imagine, he was full of praise.

However, Slot didn’t just give Gravenberch the general praise he usually gets for his ability on the ball and his driving runs.

Indeed, Slot pointed out that while Gravenberch’s dribbling ability is key, we’re in danger of forgetting his ability off the ball and how hard he works to win back possession regularly for Liverpool.

Ryan Gravenberch is incredible off the ball

Slot spoke highly of his midfielder.

“He was outstanding again today, Ryan, with his dribbling ability, and that is important for this team, but if we only focus on the dribbles he had, we forget about how important he is without the ball, he does a lot of work and wins a lot of second balls as well,” Slot said.

Ryan Gravenberch has transformed

Ryan Gravenberch looks like a completely different player this season, and Arne Slot deserved a lot of credit for this transformation.

Tim Sherwood recently remarked on how Gravenberch has looked reborn.

“Gravenberch as a six has been a massive plus for me. He has been reinvented,” said Sherwood.

“People thought he was eight, he would run forward into the box.

“He can handle the ball, he can break up the game, and he has got Szoboszlai and Mac Allister either side of him, two of the best eights in there.

Gravenberch always had the attributes to be a top player, he’s always been strong, tall, and very sleek on the ball, and now, he’s putting it all together on a weekly basis.

Ryan Gravenberch barely got into the Liverpool team last season, but now, there’s an argument to make that he’s the Reds’ best midfield player.
