'We want to...' - Clement makes new Ianis Hagi admission after Rangers U-turn at Ibrox

Philippe Clement has admitted he is “glad” Ianis Hagi’s contract issue has been resolved after a recent Rangers U-turn at Ibrox.

The Romanian international had been exiled from the first-team squad in the opening weeks of the season, with Clement suggesting there was no way back for the attacking midfielder at Ibrox.

But the Gers have now welcomed Hagi back to training after the contract issue was resolved [Joshua Barrie, 1 October] and Clement insists that he is ready to help the 25-year-old rediscover his best form.

Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday (2 October) he said: “Ianis Hagi had a contract issue before I joined which is now resolved so he is back with the squad training again.

“We want to get him to his best level so I am glad this situation is now fixed. Hagi trained with the B Team and also played in their games to keep his fitness levels up so we will assess where he is at so he can try and fight for his place in the squad.”

What has happened to Ianis Hagi at Rangers amid Ibrox absence?

While the door was never completely shut on Hagi at Ibrox, it had seemed as though Clement’s mind was all but made up on the Romanian international from the moment he returned to Glasgow having spent last season on loan.

Obviously, one of either the club or the player must have bitten the bullet to try and build a bridge between the two parties in the last few days so that this U-turn could be made at this stage of the season.

Hopefully, Clement will now be able to work with the 25-year-old to not only help him build his match fitness but also rediscover the form that made him such an exciting talent when he first arrived in Glasgow.

It won’t be easy and the Romanian international isn’t guaranteed regular football given the competition for places in midfield this season, but at least he now has the platform to impress Clement and fans alike.

In other Rangers news, one pundit has suggested that Clement will be unhappy behind closed doors after the win over Hibernian
