Everton are likely to see some players leave the club before making any more signings, Alan Myers has predicted.
The Sky Sports journalist responded to a question via X on 5 August as to whether the Toffees were in a sell-to-buy situation and tipped one or two to be moved on before another incoming deal to follow Jake O’Brien.
High-profile figures have uncertain futures with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation making a move likely [The Times, 19 July], although there is a difference of opinion at Goodison Park over whether he should be allowed to leave [Liverpool Echo, 3 August].
Fringe players such as defenders Michael Keane and Mason Holgate are also in line to leave as the club look to generate some income after O’Brien’s arrival [Guardian, 29 July], while the club are actively looking to offload forward Neal Maupay [TEAMtalk, 2 August].
Everton could sell Michael Keane and Neal Maupay
The finances have allowed far more transfer business than most recent windows already and left-back thought to be the next priority [Alan Myers, 30 July].
Central midfield also an area that Dyche is believed to want to strengthen still [Harry Watkinson, 2 August].
Leeds United claim they have rejected a big-money bid for Willy Gnonto, and although the Toffees’ view of that differs the pursuit appears to be over for a second year running [The Athletic, 6 August].
At present there is money to spend and keep the club going after major financial concerns last season, but following the collapse of the Dan Friedkin takeover that could change within a matter of months, according to Kieran Maguire on 31 July.
The finance expert has said that without a replacement deal in place soon Everton may even need to consider selling one of the “crown jewels” before the deadline, likely meaning Jarrad Branthwaite.
The club have so far remained adamant that the star defender is going nowhere unless £70million-plus is put on the table, amid multiple cut-price bids from Manchester United.
Just as the sales of Ben Godfrey and Lewis Dobbin prior to the 30 June accounting cut-off helped avoid losing the big-name it would again be helpful to cash in on some peripheral options so that could come next.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have missed out on the “perfect” option they wanted at a position of need after a medical update emerged.
