Exclusive: Wycombe Wanderers agree deal to sign Cole

League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers are poised to sign non-league hot-shot Ryan Cole after he impressed on trial, sources have told Football Insider.

Cole has spent the last two weeks on trial at Wycombe having caught the eye at Isthmian League North Division outfit Newmarket Town in the last 18 months.

The 19-year-old, who can play at left-back or in midfield, has attracted the interest of a number of EFL clubs but has agreed to join Wanderers.

Wycombe are now set to offer Cole a professional deal at Adams Park after he did enough to impress Chairboys boss Matt Bloomfield during his trial stint at the club.

The youngster has hit six goals in 23 appearances across all competitions for Newmarket this term.

He was named the club’s Young Player of the Year after his performances helped them gain promotion to the eighth tier in the 2023-24 campaign.

Cole notched 10 goals from his 42 appearances last term to put him on the radar of EFL clubs.

The left-footed teenager has been with Newmarket for more than a decade and broke into the senior side as a 16-year-old.

Wycombe currently sit top of League One with a two-point lead over free-spending Birmingham, who have played a game less than the Chairboys.

They have won each of their last eight games across all competitions as they bid to return to the Championship after their relegation from the second tier in 2021.

Bloomfield’s side finished 10th in League One last term and reached the final of the EFL Trophy.

The Buckinghamshire side are next in action against Lincoln City on Saturday (23 November).
